Teaching Babywearing
as a Perinatal Professional

Teaching babywearing goes above just knowing HOW to use a carrier. How do you approach educating a new parent and caregiver? What background information informs your teachings? How do you know just how much to share with the new babywearer and how much information is overwhelming?

Carriers Needed

To start the course, you don't need a thing! To practice along, which is highly recommended for so many reasons, then you'd probably find these things useful. Many of them are discussed in the free webinar, Become a Babywearing Educator! and in much greater detail in the first chapter of the Using Babywearing course. Here the carriers are listed in order of use:
  • Weighted demo/practice doll (in Using Babywearing I give lots of resources for these and a DIY demonstration!)
  • Ring sling
  • A soft structured carrier
  • A stretchy wrap
  • A woven wrap
  • A meh dai
  • In Teaching Babywearing we discuss tandem-specific carriers versus using two singleton carriers at the same time. If you work with multiples often, it may be worth investing in a tandem carrier after you learn about all the options in the course.
